How often is air quality data updated?
Data are checked periodically and new values depend on provider availability. An hourly sample is not an hourly model update. Previous available data may be retained; read the displayed model and valid times.
Why does air quality vary throughout the day?
Air quality changes based on traffic patterns, weather conditions, sunlight (which affects ozone formation), and industrial activities. Typically, pollution levels are higher during rush hours and lower in early morning.
Is indoor air quality the same as outdoor?
No, indoor air quality can be 2-5 times worse than outdoor air due to poor ventilation, cleaning products, cooking fumes, and other indoor sources. Use air purifiers and proper ventilation to improve indoor air.
Do masks really help against air pollution?
Yes, properly fitted N95 or KF94 masks can filter out most PM2.5 and PM10 particles. However, surgical masks and cloth masks are less effective. Make sure the mask fits snugly without gaps.
Can I exercise outdoors on moderate AQI days?
Use model estimates as context, not a personal safety guarantee. Follow local public-health advice; sensitive people may need to reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity. Seek individual medical advice when needed.
What's the difference between PM2.5 and PM10?
PM2.5 particles are smaller (2.5 micrometers) and can penetrate deeper into lungs and bloodstream, making them more dangerous. PM10 particles (10 micrometers) are larger and typically get trapped in the nose and throat.
Why is AQI sometimes different between sources?
Model resolution, forecast run, valid time and index method can differ between services. Nearby roads, weather and local sources can cause conditions at your address to differ from the model.
How can I reduce air pollution?
You can help by: using public transportation, carpooling, reducing energy consumption, avoiding wood burning, maintaining your vehicle, and supporting clean energy policies.
Are children more affected by air pollution?
Yes, children breathe faster and their lungs are still developing, making them more vulnerable. They also tend to spend more time outdoors. Always monitor air quality before allowing children to play outside for extended periods.
Does this app work offline?
Yes! As a Progressive Web App (PWA), it can be installed on your device and will cache recent data. However, you need an internet connection to fetch new air quality updates.
